KEMAL ATATURK - ONLY PROSTITUTES MUST WEAR VEIL

KEMAL ATATURK

Anyone visiting modern Turkey today finds it hard to believe that just 80 years ago the majority of women hid their faces behind veils. The unveiling of Turkish women was achieved in a few short years through the paradoxical solution of one man — KEMAL ATATURK, Turkey's revolutionary leader. As women were reluctant to show their faces, Ataturk issued an edict that read "prostitutes must wear veils". This problem was solved paradoxically: not by forbidding veils, but by permitting them, albeit for a special group.

Pervez Musharraf sometimes used to get into apoplectic fits in his desire to show his affinity with Ataturk, but in reality most of the Islamic countries and their leaders live in 14th century.

Nicholas Sarkozy has only followed on the traditions of Kemal Ataturk. He said: "The problem of the burka is not a religious problem, it's a problem of liberty and women's dignity. It's not a religious symbol, but a sign of subservience and debasement. I want to say solemnly, the burka is not welcome in France. In our country, we can't accept women prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity. That's not our idea of freedom."

And he is right !!

DANIEL PIPES in his blog: PROSTITUTES HAD TO WEAR HIJAB 7000 YEARS AGO

Prostitutes dedicated to the fertility Goddess were working at the Temples of the fertility Goddess in Canaan. There were also male priests wearing woman's clothes in these Temples. Priestesses working as prostitutes, and homosexual males were present in the Temples in Sumer. These prostitutes had to cover their heads. It is known also that in the earlier periods there were whores among the Jews who were having sexual intercourse in the name of God. That is why God in Deuteronomy 23:17 orders: "There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel." There is another order from God in Deuteronomy 23:18: "You shall not bring the hire of a whore....into the house of the Lord your God." These Jewish prostitutes used to cover their faces and their bodies with a veil. Veil originated for women in Sumer and it was their compulsory duty to have "sex" to worship the mother goddess. One can see same tradition of prostituting for goddess- in Greeks and Romans and for this the women have to take veil and thus one can understand the use of veil by women.

The veil is thus a symbol of prostitution sanctioned by a religion some 7000 years back.

================
The burqua (hijab /veil) I understand is donned as a means of protection yet comes through as being a symbol of subservience - often raising in the public consciousness questions like :

a) Are these women so ugly that they hide their faces?

or

b) Are these men afraid that their women will run off with other men ? Thus need to shield their faces from the stares of other men!

Are their women so weak that will respond to anyone who makes an overture or an advance?

And the men reveal their insecurity in the low confidence they display in their own ability to "protect their women".

One of the perils of Islam which they dont want to do away with. Hindus had "purdah" but our leaders took up the cause & abolished it along with other evils like "Sati". High time muslim leaders start a crusade to root out the oppresive symbols out of their religion. Religions is for humans & not vice versa, so religion should change with changing times just like we hindus have always done & so has other religions (except Islam) around the world.

Hi BuA,

Burkha is indeed the most prominent symbol of female subservience, imposed by Islam. Really, just what is it that the men fear? I should think that in any case, a sneak peak at the exposed kohl lined eyes would titillate another man more than if they were to see the whole face.

Purpose defeated!

Smarter One,

Sati was not evil if the historical connotations are lost out. Later on it became evil.

When Muslim soldiers won a battle, they used to rape the women folk as booty and this led to the women jumping into the pyre of their dead husbands (soldiers). Better death than a slave to Islam.

Later on this was "perverted" and lost its meanings post the British rule - and had to be stopped.

In Europe too, women used to jump off from castles to kill themselves rather than be taken alive by the Ottoman army. Does not mean "jumping off" the castle is bad.

Given the right context, some of these things take on a divine meaning.

I very well know how "Sati" started & for that matter "Purdah", dowry & the caste system. They were all for some good reasons or the other, same may also apply for "Burqa" but slowly the high values erored & these things became a tool for suppresion. Though we did away with a few of 'em but many more remain to be abolished.
It wud need a Raja Ram Mohan Roy or a Shankaracharya along with a revolution in the Muslim society to shed the subservient impositions.

Well rounded article and a great conclusion.

Since u got Kemal Ataturk, not one Paki has commented.

The Pakis are ugly and wear veil. The beauties there are in anyway jeans ...

The real beauties are in Persia - and most of them dont wear veil.

The uglies (locals) of S Arabia and Africa are better off wearing veil - they will be an assault on the eyes of males and fertility ratio in those countries will fall.

I heard when Saudis make love to their wives, there too - they cover the faces of their wives while doing it. Cannot blame them :)

Yessss !! only prostitutes and wimps use to walk semi nude on streets. Today even they do not know what to wear ! what is precious is preserved. exposure is for those who do not mind their ladies sleeping anywhere . lol

Most of you have taken full liberty to say that only prostitutes wore veils, that burka is merely a symbol of female subservience, the women are so ugly that they have no choice but to cover their faces, etc etc. Yet, all these remarks are testament to your igorance about Islam. Islam is a liberal religion that only serves to make us better beings. You say that only the ugly women cover their faces and bodies but the women who have converted to Islam in America, France and other European countires are proud to be a Muslim woman and wear the veil. Are the American and European women, the "so-called beauties" of the mordern world ugly too? If they are so free in your mordern rules, then why would they want to convert to Islam if that is what you are calling a supposedly "non-liberal, un-mordern religion"? Secondly, anonymous said that the African uglies are better off covering their faces.. I guess so much for equality and freedom that the "mordern, liberal" countries like America and Britain make themselves out to be! Furthermore, everyone here is debating about how Islam is forcing women into subservience but what about the Western powers who ealier, before the revolution came, used to treat THEIR women like trash and they had no rights at all? What about the times when Islam had granted women status equal to that of men in as early as the 6th century? What about the times when ladies like Hazrat Aisha (R) and later Rezia Sultana fought in battles while British women did not have such freedom even as late as the 1600s? You should refer to the glowing tributes that your very own authors have given to our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and the various reforms he introduced that were perhaps unknown in your own times!
I would also like to clarify what smarterone said that "religion should change with changing times": Islam declared the use of alcohol as illegal and now the Western doctors has proven that yes it is injurious to health, resulting in lung cancer. Moreover, majority of the crimes in the States and UK are caused due to abuse of alcohol. Also, in reply to anonymous' comment: Muslims during the Prophet's (P.B.U.H) times kept all of their promises and when he entered the Kabah he forgave all of his enemies. A 1000 people accepted Islam willigly with only a mere 13 people were killed in skrmishes and that too when they attacked first otherwise not a single person was harmed, much less the raping of any woman! Instead of believing in what rumours you hear, you should directly refer to the translation of the Quran and its commandments or the doings of the Prophet (P.B.U.H). For your information now anonymous, a 'Paki' has commented!

talk sense please said...

"Secondly, anonymous said that the African uglies are better off covering their faces.. I guess so much for equality and freedom that the "mordern, liberal" countries like America and Britain make themselves out to be!"

Not that I'm defending his/her idiotic comment, but how do you know that "anonymous" is British or American?

"Furthermore, everyone here is debating about how Islam is forcing women into subservience but what about the Western powers who ealier [sic], before the revolution came, used to treat THEIR women like trash and they had no rights at all?"

Um. What about them? They changed. They evolved. That's kind of the point. Who here said that the "West" is perfect and always has been?

"What about the times when Islam had granted women status equal to that of men in as early as the 6th century?"

Yes indeed! What about those times? Why must modern Islam cling to a an outmoded, repressive mindset? If Islam granted women equal status once, it can do it again. Getting the black sacks off their heads would be a start.

As for alcohol- what do you mean it causes lung cancer? That's smoking. Furthermore, Buddhism prohibits the drinking of alcohol too. Just because a religion gets one thing right doesn't mean all of it is right.

And to Anonymous- you're a racist idiot. There are serious issues here and you've hijacked them and given Muslim apologists an easy target.
